Prostate Issues

The Prostate is a very small organ, a gland, that surrounds the urethra, and sits below the urinary bladder. When healthy, the prostate is usually about the size of a walnut.
The main function of the prostate is to store and secrete a clear, slightly alkaline (pH 7.29) fluid that constitutes 10-30% of the volume of the seminal fluid that, along with spermatozoa, constitutes semen. The rest of the seminal fluid is produced by the two seminal vesicles. The alkalinity of seminal fluid helps neutralize the acidity of the vaginal tract, prolonging the lifespan of sperm. The prostate also contains some smooth muscles that help expel semen during ejaculation.
Although prostate issues are more common with men over 50, men of all ages experiences prostate-related issues from time to time. As one of the founders of MaximumVirility.com, I started experiencing Chronic Prostatitus at the age of 25. I went through every possible treatment method --from herbs to acupuncture to antibiotics to magic spells. Okay maybe not magic spells, but you get the idea. Anyway, the Chronic Prostatitus I experienced is only one of the four main types of prostate issues. The other three are:
Acute Prostatitus, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), and Prostate Cancer
Prostatitis is simply inflammation of the prostate gland. Depending on whether or not it is bacterial in nature, it may or may not be treated with antibiotics.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) occurs in older men; the prostate often enlarges to the point where urination becomes difficult. Symptoms include needing to go to the toilet often or taking a while to get started. If the prostate grows too large it may constrict the urethra and impede the flow of urine, making urination difficult and painful and in extreme cases completely impossible. BPH can be treated with medication or with surgery that removes the prostate.
Prostate Cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer occuring in older males. If you are over 40 and male, you should be having your prostate checked on a regular basis by your physician, either through rectal prostate exam or a colonoscopy. Rectal prostate exams should be atleast once a year and the colonoscopy is usually done every 5 years. Consult with your physician concerning the appropriate schedule of check up and prostate exams for you.
So what's the big picture here? The big picture is that the prostate can be a real nuisance for us guys, so we'd better take darn good care of it. Right? Right. There are many strategies we can adopt, but the bottom-line is that we have to take a wholistic approach, one that focuses on prevention, as opposed to symptoms when something has already gone wrong. Because, as was my experience, often prostatitus is not treatable with traditional western, pharmaceutical-based medicine. Countless physicians referred me back to things like herbs and acupuncture. So that is where I went.
With prevention in mind, there are a host of things you can do: Avoid caffeine, avoid alchohol, get plenty of exercise, avoid spicy foods, avoid excess carbohydrates, and the list goes on. Each person has to do what is realistic for them. Some of us cannot do without achohol, some of us cannot do without spicy foods. You have to find what is right for you.
For me, some of my favorite things were on the "avoid" list. So I had to focus on other methods. After countless hours of research, and many recommendations by my urologists who could not fix me, I turned to herbalism.
As it turned out, there were several herbs that had great reputations for keeping the prostate healthy. (saw palmetto, pygeum, stinging nettle, and rye pollen) So now I had to decide whether to take these herbs individually in pill form, teas, or tinctures, or to find herbal formulations that would have all of them included. After much experimentation, I ended up deciding that the best route was to go with high-potency herbal formulations that included many prostate-protecting herbs in one pill.
I was lucky enough to find a urologist who was also an herbalist. He informed me that the specific combination of herbs was important, and also that quality-control was of supreme importance. He explained that many of the products on the market were suspect, not delivering on the promises made. They might claim a certain concentration of rye pollen

is found in the product when in fact there are only trace amounts, if that. So, that was four years ago. I am happy to say I have been taking only the top quality prostate supplements since, and it has helped me greatly. My favorite blend out there is Prostate Complete, since I credit this supplement with being Prostatitus-free for a long time now. Whenever I have felt the slightest hint of prostate trouble, I start taking Prostate Complete, and this prevents the on-set of the prostatitus. I then continue to take it for a month or two, just for good measure, and that's that.
Simple, effective, and second-to-none. This is why we here at MaximumVirility.com have chosen, through our very selective process, to carry this product, and to offer it to help as many men as we can! Here's to your health!
