Sexual Dysfunctions
Sexual dysfunction can be defined as difficulty during any stage of the sexual act (which includes desire, arousal, orgasm, and resolution) that prevents the individual or couple from enjoying sexual activity.

There are many factors, both emotional or psychological, and physical, or physiological, that can cause sexual problems.

On the emotional side, some factors include interpersonal relationship issues, like marriage or intimacy issues, and psychological problems such as depression, anxieties, fear, low self-esteem, etc...

On the physical side, you have factors including but not limited to:  Drug and alchohol use and abuse, back injuries, prostate issues, blood-circulation issues, nerve damage, all manner of diseases, organ failure, gland disorders, hormonal imbalance, and birth defects, to name a few.

Sexual Dysfunctions generally fall into four classifications:
  1) Sexual Desire disorders (lowered libido)--this can be caused be hormone imbalances in both men and women.  There are many other root causes of loss of libido, both physical and emotional.
  2) Sexual Arousal disorders- this generally refers to an actual issue becoming aroused, after activity, touching, or otherwise, has begun that would normally initiate arousal.
  3) Orgasm disorders - simply put, this refers to a extended delay or absence of orgasm entirely. This effects both men and women, and has many physical and non-physical causes.
  4)  Sexual Pain disorders - these disorders primarily effect women, and are commonly referred to as "painful intercourse", or dyspareunia, and vaginismus, or involuntary spasm of the vaginal muscles.  This spasm can contract the vaginal wall severely and interfere with intercourse.  "Painful intercourse" or Dyspareunia, is often caused by insufficient lubrication or vaginal dryness in women.
